UHF RFID Readers

UHF RFID readers typically include:

• 4-connectors for UHF RFID antennas
• Power connector
• LAN Connector
• Serial Port
• I/O Port
• USB Host Port
• USB Console Port

UHF RFID readers are installed at each detection zone, such as a gate, a doorway (entrance/exit) or a muster point. RFID antennas detect RFID tags. Each antenna creates a circle of RFID coverage about 10’ to 15’ (3 or 4 meters). UHF RFID is not intended to provide large coverage areas, and cannot provide larger coverage areas; UHF RFID intends to saturate a walk-thru area (such as entrance/exit) or a physical space (such as a muster point), with relatively close proximity detection ranges.

UHF RFID readers support the use of motion sensors, typically at a doorway. Motion sensors provide directionality / direction-of-travel without requiring dual reader or antenna arrays on each side of the door. Motion sensors can also trigger reader ‘activate’ and ‘standby’ modes.

UHF RFID readers support diagnostic light stacks that indicate when a reader is activated and when tags are detected, so that staff have visual cues confirming RFID performance. Tags detected at RFID zones can also trigger a database lookup and activate network-connected alarms/flashing lights if personnel or visitors travel to unauthorized areas.
