RFID Detection Zones Overview

RFID detection zones establish areas of radio wave saturation for detecting personnel and visitor movements and locations.

RFID antennas can be installed to focus radio waves at a specific doorway or other entrance/exit to identify persons that are entering or existing facilities or entering or exiting through doorways within facilities. RFID antennas can also be installed at any trafficked area to track movements along hallways, passageways or other work areas.

RFID antennas can be implemented to cover large areas up to 5,000+ feet circular, for real-time tracking of personnel/visitors in-facilities or on-grounds. RFID facility and exterior zones enable coverage of large areas for tracking personnel passively and real-time, without requiring that staff travel through specific doorways or other interior walk-through RFID zones, or, travel to interior or exterior muster points.

RFID muster points can be established, typically exterior to buildings, to which staff are instructed to go in case of mustering drills or in case of real emergency. It should be noted that in cases of actual disaster or threat to well-being, personnel/visitors can not be expected to travel to muster points and will conversely be ‘running or driving’ as quickly as possible to escape the threat.

RFID muster points should not be depended-upon if an organization requires a personnel system that performs and detects personnel in case of disaster. Passive personnel/visitor tracking is required to muster personnel in cases of actual disaster or emergency.

RFID detection zones can also be established by placement of RFID antennas on moving equipment, such as a forklift, delivery truck etc. The RFID antenna on moving equipment are calibrated to detect personnel within a defined distance, such as 3 meters or 20’ etc. If the moving equipment and personnel become within the defined proximity of one another, alarm and/or flashing lights are triggered on the vehicle.
