RFID Muster Points

RFID muster points are often considered the de facto solution for personnel accountability. However, in cases of an actual disaster and when personnel fear for their safety, they will flee buildings and grounds with little consideration to mustering drills or mustering procedures.

Whereas for optimal personnel mustering, passive detection through RFID technology is the objective, RFID muster points can be easily implemented. With the understanding that personnel must go to a muster-point and in close-proximity ensure that they have been detected at the muster point. The detection range established for a muster point is an inverse relationship to the number of tags that are in proximity to readers/antennas (interrogators), and can be up to 100’s of feet or meters.

Each personnel muster point RFID station can include readers that confirm to personnel that they have been detected and accounted-for, as validated through flashing light or sound. RFID muster points can include an enclosure with enclosed tablet PC that enables the muster official at the muster point to read personnel ID cards for mustering purposes, and, to manually enroll personnel to the muster point in cases where personnel do not have their RFID identification on-their-person.

Personnel muster points can be connected to an organization’s exiting network, a stand-alone RFID network can be implemented or through a wireless mesh network with long-range radio communications. RFID readers can be configured as daisy-chain or spoke-and-wheel as to cabling.

Personnel muster point RFID detection zones can communicate to a local network, a remote network and/or via the cloud. Muster point RFID detection zones can be powered by cable, battery and/or solar.

An alternative to fixed reader and/or tablet PC RFID mustering points, mustering officials can bring tablet PC and/or RFID mobile scanner(s) to mustering points, for reading personnel ID badges and/or manually registering personnel.
