RFID Gates and RFID Turnstiles Overview

High level personnel mustering and personnel/visitor accountability can be accomplished with RFID at vehicle entrance/exit points. Roadways for entry or departure from facilities can be equipped with RFID to operate independently of physical gate(s), in coordination with human-assist gate operation or to automatically open and close gates based on RFID data and business rules.

Dual-antenna arrays are installed for each lane of traffic to detect personnel and their direction-of-travel. As such, muster report data will include ‘Person’, ‘Onsite/Offsite’ and ‘Time/Date Detected’.

RFID infrastructure and personnel tags are linked real-time to the SmartTraxx PA software, including immediate lookup of personnel RFID #’s, and with ability to also lookup vehicle RFID #’s, to operate gating systems without requirement for human intervention.

SmartTraxx PA supports freestanding or RFID-enabled turnstiles at exterior fencing or at any exterior or interior location. Turnstiles restrict access to grounds, facilities or areas of facilities, and enable automated tracking via access control and/or passive RFID movement authorization and tracking.

Gates and turnstiles can be integrated with access control systems, such as PIN #, RFID ID card, fingerprint or similar access control technologies. SmartTraxx PA can be configured to import access control system data for additional personnel movement and location data, and for additional granularity within muster reporting.

Video surveillance systems can be utilized in synchronization with SmartTraxx PA. Video cameras can be mounted at RFID detection zones and areas so that RFID data can be reconciled against surveillance video to enable visual review against RFID detection time/date stamps. SmartTraxx PA also supports business-rule based alerts in case of unauthorized personnel or visitor movements, based on software associations between RFID ID # and locations at which personnel or visitors are detected by RFID, for pinpointing when surveillance video should be viewed.

For organizations with heightened security requirements, intrusion detection systems can be implemented, such as radar, infrared and similar technologies. Intrusion detection systems proactively identify ‘known’ persons or vehicles (with known RFID identification) and ‘unknown’ persons or vehicles (without known RFID identification). Unauthorized intrusions automatically trigger security responses based on defined business rules.
